Improving Your Skills

At EDAM our aim is to help riders of all abilities improve their riding skills and stay safe on the roads. We achieve this through the delivery of three things:

  1. IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider Course

  2. Go FAR – Free Assessed Ride

  3. Organised Group Rides

The Advanced Rider Course is delivered by a number of volunteer Observers who spend on average around 2½ hours each week riding with the associate and giving them valuable feedback to help prepare them for their advanced test.

IAM RoadSmart
Advanced Rider Course

RoadSmart is a course of observed rides, leading to the Advanced Rider test.

Based on the principles of Advanced Riding as used by the police, it teaches riders the skills to better adapt to changing situations.

The IAM RoadSmart Advanced Rider Course is approved by the Driving Standards Agency.

Free Taster Session

This 100% free taster session ride isn't a test, it's just a relaxed one-to-one session with an EDAM observer, with the aim of identifying areas for improvement.

What is Advanced Riding

Advanced Riding is about demonstrating a safe, systematic, smooth and progressive ride. This skill is one of the cheaper add-ons you can buy to make your bike perform better, and it works on every bike you will ever own.

Organised Group Rides

Most of the group rides are for EDAM members only. However, there are often open rides that are open to all riders with a full licence and a machine larger than a 125.
