As with any organisation, EDAM has people in place to assist in the smooth running of the organisation. The committee members are all volunteers and give their time freely to assist in the continuation of EDAM for the benefit of all the Members.
In order to administer and improve the organisation, regular committee meetings are held and at the end of each year, an Annual General Meeting is held (normally in April) to inform the Members of matters concerning EDAM. Although all Members are welcome, only Full Members are eligible to vote on certain issues.
The Observers in EDAM, like the committee members, are all volunteers and freely give up their time to help Associate Members through the Advanced Motorcycle Guidance programme, which consists of practical guidance on their riding skills through Observed Rides and educational discussions, as well as assisting the Associates prepare for their IAM Advanced Test.
To ensure that the Associate Members continue to get the most out of their practical and educational guidance, the Observers regularly meet to discuss existing and potential new methods and processes.
EDAM's Chief Observer overseas the Training Standards of the Group and is responsible for the training of the Senior Observers, Observers and Trainee Observers. Each Observer has to undergo a programme of Observer training. All Observers have themselves passed the Advanced Motorcycle Test and as such, have the knowledge and experience of what is required by the Examiners.
The Senior Observers are tested tri-annually by the IAM Staff Examiner for Motorcycles in Scotland.
