About Us

Edam Catchment Area

EDAM is the local group in Edinburgh and the surrounding area that is affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists, specifically for Motorcycles.

We are a registered Scottish Charity (No. SCO23692) which is run and operated by volunteers.

EDAM operates as a Club with a Membership and as such, individuals wishing to benefit from our organisation must first join as a Member (refer to the Membership section for further details).

Our membership comprises a vast selection of personality types, age groups and backgrounds, who as you can imagine all ride different styles of motorcycles. Some of our members ride fast superbikes, others ride the traditional Triumphs of yesteryear, whilst others ride tourers and one, even a Honda Goldwing! Just in case you were wondering, we do have a couple of members who ride BMWs!

The aims of the group include:

  • Improving road safety and awareness through developing an individual's Motorcycle skills
  • Preparing an individual for the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test
  • Organising Motorcycle activities such as: Fun Runs and Group Organised Rides
  • Providing a Social Calendar
  • Producing a monthly Newsletter ('TwistGrip')
