Advanced Motorcycling is about learning and using The System of Motorcycle Control which provides a way for you to approach and negotiate hazards that is methodical, safe and leaves nothing to chance. But most importantly, it gives you that essential aspect of safe riding - Time To React! By adopting this proven method of riding, you are considerably reducing your odds of being involved in an incident.
Advanced Motorcycling is defined in The Police Foundation's Motorcycle Roadcraft - The Police Rider's Handbook to Better Motorcycling, which is used as the textbook for police riders undertaking police rider training. Currently in its 5th edition, it has been prepared by a group of experienced Police riding instructors in consultation with many Police and civilian experts.
During any journey, there is a tremendous amount of information that you need to see and process, whether it is the continually changing road and traffic conditions, the weather and its effects on both you and the road, the visibility, as well as the physical road features such as: junctions, roundabouts, bends, or hill crests.
As an Advanced Motorcyclist, you will learn how to systematically use The System through the use of a logical sequence of actions and thought processes to safely and efficiently negotiate any hazard by ensuring that you are in the right position, travelling at the right speed, in the right gear.
A key part of becoming an Advanced Motorcyclist is understanding the basic techniques such as: observations and anticipation, positioning, cornering, braking and overtaking.
